Our Story in Central Oregon

Our beginnings

Alan Moore began working in residential HVAC in the 1980s. He spent years installing heating and cooling systems in new homes. The work taught him more than the trade. It taught him how to coordinate with builders and other subcontractors, keep projects moving, and earn trust by doing the work correctly. As contractors came to rely on his work, starting a company of his own became a practical next step.

In 1999, Deschutes Vacuum and Sheet Metal began as a two-truck business offering residential HVAC work and central vacuum systems. Alan brought years of installation experience and established relationships with local contractors. Central vacuum systems gave the young company another way to serve builders and compete for projects.

Those early years required long days and a willingness to take on the work that came through the door. They created the foundation for the company that Deschutes would become.

Growing with Central Oregon

Central Oregon was growing, and Deschutes stayed busy installing heating and cooling systems in new homes. Reliable work led to repeat projects and lasting relationships with local builders. The company added employees to keep pace with demand.

As HVAC work expanded, central vacuum systems became a smaller part of the business. Deschutes eventually moved away from that work and became Deschutes Heating & Cooling. The new name reflected the company's growing focus.

Building our service department

As Central Oregon grew, Deschutes installed heating and cooling systems in more new homes. The expanding workload led to a larger team and fleet.

Those installations also created lasting relationships with homeowners. As their systems aged, customers returned to Deschutes for maintenance and repairs. The company built its service department to meet that demand. New construction and residential service grew side by side, shaping the full-service company Deschutes is today.

Deschutes today

Today, we are a full-service residential HVAC company serving homeowners in Bend and throughout Central Oregon. We maintain, diagnose, repair, design, upgrade, and install heating and cooling systems.

New construction remains part of the business, and we continue to work with longstanding local contractors. Our service department provides maintenance and repair for existing systems, while our system designers help homeowners plan replacements and improvements for their homes.

Our work covers a wide range of residential HVAC equipment and home comfort needs. That includes furnaces, heat pumps, air conditioners, ductless systems, thermostats, zoning, ductwork, airflow, ventilation, filtration, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, and more. If it affects your home's heating, cooling, airflow, or indoor comfort, there is a good chance we can help.

Alan still owns Deschutes and comes to work each day. While he no longer spends his time crawling under houses or running service calls, he remains closely involved in the daily business.

We have grown far beyond those first two trucks. Throughout that growth, our purpose has remained simple: provide homeowners with clear answers, practical options, and work they can trust.
