Replacement Planning & System Design

Considering Replacement or an Upgrade?

There are several ways homeowners arrive at this point. A service technician may have found that your current system is reaching the point where replacement deserves consideration. Another HVAC company may already have recommended a new system and you want another proposal. Or you may be planning an improvement of your own, such as adding air conditioning, considering a heat pump, improving comfort, adding ductless equipment, or replacing aging equipment before it fails.

Whatever brought you here, you do not need to know exactly what system you want before contacting us. You may only know that something about your home could be better.

That is where System Design begins.

Why a System Design Visit Matters

Heating and cooling projects are rarely one-size-fits-all. Two homeowners may want the same improvement but have very different homes, existing equipment, ductwork, electrical capacity, comfort concerns, budgets, and priorities.

A good recommendation starts with understanding those differences.

At Deschutes Heating & Cooling, we offer a no-charge System Design visit so we can understand both you and your home before developing a recommendation. The purpose is not simply to replace one piece of equipment with another. It is to understand what you are trying to accomplish and determine which options make the most sense for the way your home is built and used.

What Happens During a System Design Visit?

The System Designer begins by talking with you about what brought you to this point. They will ask about what you like or dislike about the current system, areas of the home that are uncomfortable, improvements you are considering, your priorities, and any concerns you have about the project.

They will also look at the home and the existing HVAC setup. Depending on what you are considering, that may include the current equipment, ductwork and airflow, thermostat and controls, electrical service, gas availability, room layout, available installation space, and other conditions that affect what can practically be done.

From there, the conversation can turn to the different approaches available. There may be one obvious solution, or there may be several reasonable ways to accomplish the same goal. The System Designer can explain the differences, answer questions, and help narrow those choices into a practical plan for your home.

You do not need to know the answers before the visit. You do not need to know what equipment you want, what the project should cost, or whether you are ready to move forward.

The visit is there to help you understand those things.

From the Visit to a Clear Proposal

Once the home has been evaluated and your goals are understood, the System Designer can turn those conversations into a specific plan.

The proposal should make it clear what is being recommended, what work is included, what equipment or improvements are part of the project, what options are available, and what the complete project will cost.

Depending on the home, there may be more than one reasonable approach. The goal is not to overwhelm you with choices. It is to explain the meaningful differences so you can decide what fits your priorities, comfort goals, and budget.

You can ask questions, take time to consider the plan, and decide whether you want to move forward. There is no charge for the System Design visit and no obligation to purchase a system.

From Proposal to Installation

If you decide to move forward, the System Designer remains involved as the project moves from planning into installation.

They coordinate the approved plan with our shop and installation team, help work through custom design details, make sure the correct equipment and materials are ordered, and help coordinate scheduling.

Once installation begins, the goal is for the work in your home to match the plan you agreed to. If questions, changes, or unexpected conditions come up, we work through them with you rather than treating the signed proposal as the end of the conversation.

After the installation is complete, we want to make sure the system is operating as intended, you understand what was installed, and any remaining questions or concerns are addressed.

Deschutes Heating & Cooling is a locally owned Central Oregon company. We are not handing your project from one disconnected department to another. The people designing, coordinating, installing, and supporting your system work together locally, and we remain available throughout the process.

Our goal is simple: understand what you want to accomplish, develop a plan that fits your home, carry that plan through installation, and make sure you are satisfied with the result.
